Just a short distance from the busy centre of Sirmione lies this unique and enchanting place.
Jamaica Beach is a small stone beach located at the northern tip of Sirmione. It is well worth a visit, especially if you follow the route suggested in this article.
It can be reached via the path that descends near the entrance to the archaeological area of the Grotte di Catullo, or, as recommended, by walking along part of the peninsula shoreline as described below.
Walking on the Lake
At times, due to low rainfall, Lake Garda drops below its usual level. During long dry periods, the water level can fall by 30–60 cm, and as if by magic, the large stone slabs around Sirmione emerge from the water, offering stunning views and the unique opportunity to walk “on the lake”.
With only your feet getting wet, you can reach the outer edge of the rocks where the waves from the many boats carrying tourists around the beautiful “island” of Sirmione gently break.
The easiest way to visit Jamaica Beach is to reach the entrance to the Grotte di Catullo and, shortly before arriving, follow the path down towards the Jamaica Beach bar. However, this route is only accessible when the bar is open; otherwise, you will find a closed gate with a no-entry sign.
If you wish to visit the beach outside the summer season or during weekdays, we recommend following the alternative route described below, which is far more scenic and distinctive.
How to Reach the Beach
Take the A4 Milan–Venice motorway and exit at Sirmione. At the first roundabout, turn right onto Via Colli Storici. At the following four roundabouts, always take the second exit towards Sirmione. Once you reach the large Gardesana roundabout (towards Brescia), take the first exit on the right and continue to the next roundabout with the fountain, where you should take the second exit towards the historic centre of Sirmione.
After approximately 1 kilometre, you will reach the car parks where you can leave your vehicle.
